CharterSAFE is a nonprofit membership organization devoted exclusively to protecting California’s charter schools. With deep roots in the charter movement, we understand the unique needs of charter schools, and offer comprehensive insurance and risk management services to keep schools safe and sustainable.

Founded in 2004 by charter school leaders, and led by a charter school graduate, CharterSAFE goes beyond providing just insurance coverage. We keep our members protected—physically, operationally, financially and reputationally. As a Joint Powers Authority (JPA), CharterSAFE is owned by our member schools. Our goal is to lower school insurance costs for our members while still offering comprehensive coverage. By pooling resources, our members share the cost of specialized insurance coverage tailored just for charter schools—saving them money in the long run.

Charter school leaders wear many hats while running a school. We are a hands-on partner helping leaders plan for unforeseen circumstances through proactive risk management, and when issues do arise, we help reduce the impact on schools. By alleviating worrisome operational, safety and HR issues, CharterSAFE helps ensure school leaders are able to dedicate more time and resources to educating students.
