The state’s new growth metric shows New Heights Charter School’s success with students. The session will showcase some of what our team is doing regarding student learning and well-being. We will share a framework for thinking about teaching, learning, and school culture. Then we will engage in problem-solving groups where participants can bring their own questions to a facilitated process/discussion.

Executive Director
New Heights

Amy Berfield is the founder and Executive Director of New Heights Charter School. She opened the school in 2006 and has been the school’s sole leader for the past 16 years. New Heights was named one of the Top Los Angeles County Public Schools for Underserved Students in 2019 and 2020. Prior to opening New Heights, Ms. Berfield worked for 18 years in educational improvement at the Coalition of Essential Schools, the Galef Institute, the San Francisco Education Fund, and the Developmental Studies Center.

Trina Mitchell has been a School Social worker at New Heights for 6 years. She serves as a liason between student's, teachers and parents, to ensure the overall well-being of students. She is committed to the vision of New Heights, and is dedicated to their healthy development.
