Building Strong Family Advocacy for Your Renewal

Join us to learn how to bring your families as partners in the renewal process early on and how they can be strong advocates to get your school across the renewal finish line. You will learn tips and get tangible tools to start building family advocacy capacity at your school now, especially if you are in your 3rd or 4th year of your petition. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn from experts how they approach this work in their charter organizations.

Carmen serves as Senior Director, Greater Los Angeles Local Advocacy at CCSA. She leads policy and advocacy efforts to support member schools across Los Angeles County in the areas of charter school authorization, renewals, funding equity, facilities and community advocacy. Previous roles at CCSA include Youth Organizer, Parent Lead Organizer, and Manager of CCSA’s Youth Program where she lead parent and student leadership development and advocacy efforts. She is a charter alumna and first-generation student, she experienced firsthand the value of a charter system that gave her and many students a chance at higher education.
