Looking Past the Hurt: Understanding Foster/Homeless Youths in Schools
Session focus: the plight of foster/homeless youths in a school setting. Exploration of alternative methods needed when addressing their discipline, academics, and social/emotional outcomes. Participants will be aware of the struggles these individuals face, and understand how to create safe environments for these youths to thrive both academically and socially/emotionally. Foster/homeless students are often overlooked and underrepresented. This session will offer insight into their plight, giving educators the opportunity to understand how and why making meaningful connections with these students is so important and vital.
