Best practices for developing & implementing a multi-year strategic plan
Participants will learn best practices for developing and implementing a multi-year strategic plan based on a case study at Equitas Academy. The session will emphasize building strong stakeholder buy-in, establishing transparent and cascading decision-making processes, and developing practical progress monitoring tools to make the plan manageable over time. The goal of the presentation is to share strategic planning process strategies that create input opportunities for all stakeholders, build excitement throughout the organization and make the plan one that can be implemented with fidelity.

Kate Farrar has spent more than 3 decades in education as a middle school English/ELD teacher, a guidance counselor, and a charter school principal and board member prior to her current role. In the non-profit sector, Kate spent years locally and nationally working at Teach for America and Leadership for Educational Equity. Currently, Kate is in her third year as the Chief of Staff at Equitas Academy Charter Schools in the Pico-Union community of Los Angeles.

Mark Kleger-Heine has nearly 30 years of experience as a teacher and education leader. For nearly 9 years, Mark was the Executive Director of Citizens of the World Los Angeles, a high-performing and rapidly growing charter school network. Previously he was the founding Chief Operating Officer of the Partnership for LA Schools serving LAUSD schools under Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Having worked in both district and charter schools, Mark is committed to educational equity. Mark has degrees in Psychology, business and public policy, and now serves schools and nonprofit organizations through his consulting practice.

Sarah is a consultant to public school systems and non-profit organizations. She advises on strategic planning, board management, community engagement and talent planning. Sarah is former Chief of Staff at KIPP LA Schools and former interim Chief People Officer at Alliance College-Ready Public Schools. Ensuring that high quality public educational opportunities are accessible to all families in all neighborhoods is Sarah’s passion. Sarah earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Wesleyan University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Yale School of Management and a M. Ed in Education Leadership from The Broad Center where she is a guest lecturer.

With 27 years of leadership experience in public education, Dr. Roditti has developed a deep understanding of educational systems. As the daughter of immigrants and a Latina who grew up in Los Angeles, she is committed to promoting equity in education. Dr. Roditti’s career began as a teacher in South Central Los Angeles and expanded through various leadership roles, including her position as COS at San Diego Unified School District. She holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Education. Since joining Equitas in July 2022, Dr. Roditti has been prioritizing equity and socio-emotional development of scholars.
