Effectively Preparing for and Resolving Due Process Claims
Special education due process cases are inevitable for most charter schools at some point, and this presentation is about the nuts and bolts of resolving these cases. We will discuss how to respond to parent requests with compliant prior written notices (PWNs), how to evaluate your school’s potential exposure, how to formulate settlement targets, and how to bridge gaps with parents and their attorneys. We will discuss early resolution conferences and mediations, preparing for hearing, settlement agreements, and strategies for working with students and families after a case is resolved.
