Least Restrictive Environments: A How-To Guide

This presentation will help schools put into practice the legal factors for determining least restrictive environment (LRE). We will discuss the range of potential appropriate educational settings, from general education, to inclusive models, to nonpublic schools. We’ll look at the steps in order for an individualized educational program (IEP) team to make the proper recommendations, what data should be considered, and LRE strategies for small schools and independent study programs. We will also discuss when to use alternative placements such as 45-day interim alternative educational settings and diagnostic placements.
