Handling Tough Complaints and Student Discipline in Charter Schools
Charter schools must adhere to legal requirements for student discipline, while also balancing student safety and often handling complaints about the underlying student behavior. It’s not always clear which process must be followed to investigate a complaint, especially when legal requirements change. This session will provide an overview of the legally required complaint processes, including Title IX and UCP. We will discuss tips and strategies for how and when to use an effective informal complaint process, and will also cover the legal requirements for equitable discipline practices, suspensions, and expulsions.
