Building Wellness on a Budget: Creating Supportive Spaces for Students
Learn how charter school site teams can establish a dedicated wellness team and space with limited budgets. This session will explore adjusting current staff roles to create a holistic approach that supports the whole child. We will share our current model and provide strategies for reallocating existing resources, coordinating community partnerships, and integrating wellness practices into daily operations. Participants will leave with actionable steps to foster student well-being without significant additional costs.

Alyssa began her career as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) for a private ABA company in 2019. With the knowledge and skills developed, she has shifted her career to Education where she focuses on promoting positive behavior and social-emotional growth among students while simultaneously building the capacity of paraprofessionals over the last 3 years. Alyssa regularly coaches, models, and designs additional tools to support students’ academic and behavioral needs. Alyssa collaborates with BCBAs, teachers, education specialists, psychologists, administration and other school personnel to create personalized strategies that address behavioral challenges and foster a sense of belonging.

As an advocate for all students, Grace Ridgeway has served in many capacities in education for 20+ years. She has led and supported the efforts for equitable access and inclusive practices for ALL students to maximize their academic development and potential to succeed in school. Dr. Ridgeway began her educational career as a paraeducator and transitioned as a school teacher. As an equity warrior, she hopes to continue her work by leading organizational change to implement equitable policies and practices through evidence-based strategies while building the capacity of her team to lead and serve all students.

Ms. Solorio is a dedicated school counselor who collaborates with students, parents, and educators to foster a positive learning environment. With expertise in providing counseling for students with IEPs and general education students, Ms. Solorio coordinates key interventions like Student Study Team meetings and 504 Plans. She also leads school-wide programs, connects families with external partnerships, and facilitates crisis intervention services for students facing mental health challenges. Additionally, Ms. Solorio manages the Master Schedule, ensuring that all students are placed in classes that best support their academic and personal growth.
