Amplifying Student Voice: Empowering Students to Lead on Campus

In this session, participants will learn from 7th grade student leader, Jada Sta. Maria, her teacher advisor, and school principal as they share strategies and tools used to create a Student Impact Committee to elevate student voice and empower students to make real change on their TK-8 campus. Leave inspired to tap into the creativity students can offer to solve problems that impact the day-to-day student experience on your campus.

My name is Gina Moon. I have been an educator for more than 20 years. This year I will be using my passion for the arts teaching Art 1 to seventh and eighth graders in our middle school. I will also be using my heart for raising student voice to support our student leaders. I received a multiple subject teaching credential, as well as my Art credential from Sacramento State University. I have taught Fourth Grade, Sixth Grade, Seventh Grade, High School, and K-6 grade Art.

Along with her teacher and principal, she created and leads a Student Impact Committee at her school which has empowered other students to make a difference at school. Jada also enjoys volleyball, crocheting, and hanging out with her friends.

Jillayne serves in dual roles at Rocklin Academy Family of Schools, a site Principal and the organization’s Director of Growth and Community Engagement. She brings a constant drive for excellence and equity and a deep commitment to Rocklin Academy Family of Schools’ mission and vision to her work. Jillayne is focused on creating the climate and systems to support Rocklin Academy’s continued growth and development. She leads the work of preparing for new schools by developing leaders, engaging with the community, charter school advocacy, and the charter petitioning process.
